Background Www Timeme Com
RescueTime has been part of my life For more than 6 years, but I’ve never sat down to compose a RescueTime review until only a few months ago. Www Timeme Com
A few months ago marked my first full year of self-employment. I took the time to reevaluate all of my tools and working processes to make sure I had a moment equilibrium among all my priorities.
After all — whether You’re paid hourly or not, Your time is your sole resource that is non-renewable. It should become your time, if you are likely to manage anything.
Since almost all my priorities are on A computer — time management software (ie, RescueTime) is a core component of that.
Here’s my RescueTime review with pros, cons, utilize Following steps and Instances based on my experience.
What Is RescueTime?
RescueTime is a time management & Productivity software company founded in 2008. The RescueTime program runs in the background of your devices categorizing your own activity, measuring and tracking.
RescueTime is a free app with a premium upgrade That enables more specific reporting and features like offline moment inputsignal. It offers a reporting dashboard with all your data diced, chopped and sorted into helpful charts to help you manage your own time.
The program relies on Peter Drucker’s (the famous Management advisor ) maxim that”what gets measured, gets managed.”
RescueTime takes the monitoring of time you truly track your time so that and makes it automatic and painless .

Rescuing Your Period
RescumeTime is a productivity tool at the, to reiterate Feel that it helps your time-management skills improve. It gathers data about the apps and websites you use, then generates reports based on that information.
To get started, you set up a and create an account Desktop app in your computer(s) and a cell program on Android apparatus ) There is no iOS program because the operating system prevents RescueTime from collecting the data it needs to perform its purpose. Those programs quietly and invisibly track which programs you use and which sites you visit, in addition to the quantity of time you spend on them.
The hard nut to crack is the Way to make sense of all that information. To get the best results, you must customize your accounts from the RescueTime site and inform the program more about what you believe productive versus unproductive activity. The more you fine-tune it to your specific conditions, the greater your results. For instance, somebody who operates in the financing industry may classify reading financial news on web sites such as MarketWatch and FT.com as a productivity job, whereas for me, that’s an unproductive use of time.
You can categorize site and each program on a 5-point Scale of quite productive, effective, neutral, dependable, and incredibly unproductive. You could even categorize action into work categorizes. For instance, I list Google Docs as quite productive, and that I categorized it as Writing, which is a subcategory of Layout and Composition. Looking at Redfin.com is very distracting when I’m trying to function, and I have categorized it .
In the desktop app, there is an easy set of controllers That lets you pause RescueTime for 15 minutes, 1 hour, or until tomorrow, giving you easy access to switching the app off for breaks or days once you wrap up early.
When confronted with RescueTime’s proposition–We’ll track All you do and provide you insights about your customs! –some people may, justifiably, be worried about their privacy and the safety of information in their hardware. If you work with sensitive info on the internet or store sensitive information in your own computers and mobile devices, you’ll want to browse RescueTime’s privacy and safety statements carefully.
If your worries are more relaxed and you simply don’t Want RescueTime tracking you on the weekend, you have control over the times and days the program monitors your behaviour. You can easily set it to just watch your action from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, or whatever program suits you.
I’ve used RescueTime for years, and that I don’t check my Daily productivity reports. I love to allow the service run in the background so that when I do want to find a better picture of how I have been spending my own time, a good amount of information is waiting for me.
While I do go through the reports, however, they’re Magnificent. I love the variety, giving you get numerous methods of understanding your productivity and customs, from bar graphs and pie graphs that show lump sums of action, to line things of software you used.
One simple but powerful piece of information RescueTime Provides is an investigation of when during the daytime you are inclined to be the most successful. I wasn’t surprised to see that my mind peaks in the morning and slacks off after 2:00 p.m., as that matches pretty well with everything I understand about my habits. If you have never studied your productivity, nevertheless, that may be a beneficial revelation for you, one that might help you schedule your days more productively.
The longer you use RescueTime Premium, the more useful the Data becomesbecause you may see your statistics daily, week, month, or year. And as you might expect, it is possible to toggle which days and times RescueTime records your action so that it turns off automatically on weekends, for instance. Www Timeme Com
Much of the value you get from RescueTime comes from that which You make of the data and the way you use that data to influence your behavior. Changing behavior is hard, but getting rich insights does not need to be.
One of the manners RescueTime makes it Simple to understand how To interpret all the data that it collects is with a Productivity Pulse score. This daily score, shown as a percent, comes in calculating the percent of time spent on very productive, productive, neutral, unproductive, and very wasteful jobs. To be clear, nobody is advocating you target for a 100 percent Productivity Pulse score.
A RescueTime blog post describing the productivity Score notes that the score is 67 percent, and the in-house average is 79 percent. The majority of people need to do some work that isn’t considered”very productive” throughout their day. The entire purpose of using RescueTime is to help you work out how to focus on productive and very productive tasks when you will need to and possibly save less productive activities for times when your ability to concentrate was waning anyway.
Tasks that are productive are not the same thing as distractions. RescueTime has a simple and smart feature for curbing behaviour that is unwanted, like getting sucked into distracting websites, also. A feature called FocusTime, when enabled, blocks your ability to access. It requires a little setup and customization, but it is quite powerful, once it is ready to deploy. For example, let’s say you wish to to finish a report, and to make progress on it, you need to focus hardcore for the next thirty minutes. Switch FocusTime, and it can prevent you from taking a look posting on Twitter, checking sports scores, or whatever other sites and activities you deem deflecting.
The RescueTime mobile program has Mechanically silence your phone you empower FocusTime. Likewise, you may set up other automation with the help of third party services IFTTTFree at iTunes Store and Zapier to obstruct or silence additional distractions. By way of instance, you can make a rule using IFTTT (it stands for”if this, then that”) that states,”When I empower FocusTime, then mechanically set my Slack status to active.”
RescueTime also gives you the option to log time pc Idle time. Any time RescueTime finds that the computer has been idle for several minutes at a row, so it pops up a dialog asking if you’re at a meeting, on the phone, taking break, and so on, and lets you categorize the idle time accordingly.
Pros of RescueTime
Here is some of the advantages of utilizing RescueTime Over solutions. Www Timeme Com
At its heart, RescueTime does one thing — track time. It’s not super special, if you look at it that way. Technically, you can do some of those dozens of programs that are free or this using a spreadsheet online.
However, RescueTime’s attribute set The way that it tracks time and what it does with the data (aka, one you’ll really use).
RescueTime watches that windows now have Activity, looks at instances, and the window title the activity in that window. It is always running in the background always watching.
100% Automated tracking, unobtrustive makes RescueTime rewarding. There is no friction or hurdle to monitoring time.
Since RescueTime’s tracking feature solves that Problem, you’ll have data that is complete, useful & appropriate.
RescueTime’s other features focus on producing their Core attribute. Like time-tracking & billing for 15, they don’t attempt to add on characteristics that are complementary. They don’t try to enter any side businesses.
They do have a few attributes Using the tracking Attribute in an intriguing way. For example, the Get Focused! When selected from running feature blocks apps.
They have alarms and aims that Permit You to pick What you want to occur when X happens — and RescueTime will do this based on what it’s tracking.
I love how RescueTime does Offline Time Tracking. Rather than having to search and add it in 100% manually, then you pick a time period that is unlogged and fill in the blank.
You can customize the buttons to make logging Offline time quick and easy.
It’s a feature set — but that’s exactly Making it great. It is well-done, straightforward and easy.
Pricing and Strategies
RescueTime offers two tiers of support: Lite (free) and Premium ($9 a month or $72 per year). Organizations or Firms that are looking to use RescueTime across a group of individuals pay the same rate.
RescueTime Lite offers plenty for someone who has never Monitored his or her time. The program monitors which sites and programs you use, and how long spent in or on every one of them. You can categorize every app and website you are using on a Productive/Unproductive scale, and RescueTime generates a few primary reports showing how you spend your time. Lite members can place weekly objectives, such as”spend hours per week on productive tasks and fewer than Y minutes on unproductive items.” It’s possible to get a report email for you. For reports, you are limited to a three-month history.
Subscribers get everything from the Lite program that is free, Plus features and reports, including an unlimited history. Premium comes with alarms you can empower for if you hit objectives. You can more accurately log time spent away from the computer, noting whether you were in a meeting, on a phone call, or simply out to dinner. Furthermore, there is a Get Focused alternative, which lets you block websites that are distracting you set. Www Timeme Com
Comparing RescueTime’s price to that of other apps Requires an open mind because apps do exactly what RescueTime does. Qbserve is one and it charges a flat one-time fee of $40.
We could, but look at more traditional time-tracking Apps for freelancers who typically include tools for invoices. HarvestFree in Harvest is a example. At $12 per individual a month for Premium, it costs more than RescueTime, but it has a clear return on investment since it helps ensure more accurate charging. How you’ll translate RescueTime’s reports and make better use of your time as a consequence is not as clear.
Toggl Popular among salespeople, prices $9 a month, and it gives you tools for monitoring time spent on projects with charging clients’ end aim. It has several integration options for connecting with invoicing services, although toggl does not contain its own invoicing tools.
A Couple of programs are closer to RescueTime in what they have to Offer, for example Slife, even though they have a tendency to have fewer attributes even if they are free (and Slife is).
Either way — RescueTime is a no-brainer pricing-wise. It is totally free to use.
And when the features save you only One hour per month it is paid for itself even if you are simply earning US minimum wage.
RescueTime is an investment which makes sense.
A Frequent problem with tracking apps of all kinds is That they always have to be on. The”always on” attribute can cause performance issues on notebooks & desktop computers. Battery issues can be caused by it .
But in my experience, RescueTime causes neither. It is running on my Nexus 5x mobile phone, my Windows PC, and my Macbook Pro from startup. I’ve never monitored any performance or battery issues to the app.
It’s well-built and lightweight.
I like the fact that the cellular app doesn’t demand Dozens of permissions that are absurd. It requires access to use data, but does not try to monitor contacts, location, emails, or some of those privacy violating permissions other programs request.
It’s quick to set up and syncs using an internet dashboard. It pulls in data from all sources in the same period, and crunches the information quickly if you are on the Premium plan or from next day to the program.
What’s the purpose of information if it can’t be interpreted by you ? Www Timeme Com
RescueTime’s accounts solves that issue — and in Ways is the entire point of using the app above a spreadsheet.
RescueTime’s Dashboard uses colorful bar and Pie charts to show just what you are (and aren’t ) doing.
You can Choose to receive emails reports every day, Week or even month.
And on Top of That, you can dig into the Reporting with numerous filters and overlays to find your customs out.
It is really eye-opening to determine that the real amount of Time that each job takes.
When I trying to find a marketing agency in Atlanta — The time monitored to Gchats and Instant Messages was astounding. It altered my project managers personally, but also processes not just for me personally.
Now that I’m on my own with no full-time employees — I will see the time I devote to tasks that matter. I am able to construct around those.
And just to reiterate Built-in into the software. The Dashboard is on my default — and even advanced reports are pre-built.
It’s all quick, seamless and effective so that you When analyzing your time aren’t ironically currently wasting time.
One of the Major selling points of RescueTime is their characteristic set minimalism. They do one thing and they do it nicely.
That said — most people using their product Have software requirements that are time-based. When it’s billing project management, team time tracking or anything else — your time needs usually don’t cease with monitoring, measuring and categorization.
To resolve that problem, RescueTime’s software Integrates with a massive range of other applications. They’ve an open API and direct integrations with applications that is common.
Whether you are Time tracking into a job manager that needs to collate team member’s time or invoicing applications like FreshBooks, RescueTime will integrate with it.
Cons of RescueTime
Like any applications however — RescueTime is neither Nor is it the best fit for everyone. Here is some pitfalls that I’ve noticed through time. Www Timeme Com
Default Get Focused! Categories
Generally, RescueTime’s classes are fairly good. Sites like Reddit, Facebook and Twitter are”Very Distracting”…for most people. And for tracking, RescueTime’s categories are fast & easy to fix.
However, RescueTime’s classes can be off with overall News, research sites and distracting sites’ subdomains.
I can’t use the Get Focused! Performance for almost any Task that requires research (aka visiting a bunch of different sites ).
Ironically, the time I need smart blocking Functionality is when I’m doing research for a post
There is a fine line between which really is productive and When I am researching This really is distracting. It’d be great to use RescueTime, but the classes are not true enough for this to work.
The Main issue is the Block Sites work Is unavailable in reverse (ie, add specific sites to block). I am only able to add websites to unblock.
And if I’m visiting several sites were blocked by dozen — Adding them becomes time wasting.
If You’re Looking for an app that will block only Specific sites — RescueTime isn’t it.
Effectiveness vs. Efficiency
RescueTime (or any time management software) Heightens the bias towards efficiency .
If you do the wrong thing for 18 hours Every Day, Daily with focus that is ideal — you are still doing the wrong thing.
The most important factor in time management is to Work on the things that are right — the 20 percent of time input which will generate 80% of your results.
And that. RescueTime Can’t fix that issue.
In fact, in some ways, RescueTime can hurt your By pushing you towards doing over research approach and planning Attempts.
If effectiveness is the heart issue RescueTime isn’t for you. It’ll only make matters worse.
Rather, I’d recommend reading some of them books.
RescueTime has been an invaluable tool for me. It’s not for everybody and has some feature quirks and pitfalls.
That said, the thing is perspective. It’s easy to think that you”work a ton” or are”not hooked on a phone” or”invest as much time composing” or are”barely ever on Facebook.”
But the information doesn’t lie. And utilizing RescueTime to Get accurate time data on your digital time will be able to assist your own time is literally rescued by you and put your life in perspective. Www Timeme Com
